Today El Dorado County and Placerville remain the hub of the Mother Load country. Local industry has moved from mining to lumber, agriculture, light manufacturing and tourism. Placerville remains the location of the offices of the El Dorado county government, but when the city and it rich history are recalled it is the colorful name of Hangtown that has endured!
